The notion of the leader is increasingly replacing that of the manager. A key principle is that efficiency is dependent not only on the ability to manage colleagues individually and collectively, but more importantly on knowing how to behave in the wider environment – with peers, managers and superiors, and members of other teams over whom we have no direct authority – and how to look at things from a different perspective.

Developing leadership involves the individual in the reassessment of his role, mission, beliefs and values in order to demonstrate the capacity to influence the team and the environment.
